Track Season Ends As Mqt Sweeps U.P. Final

The Michigan High School Athletic Association's U.P. state track finals were held on Saturday in Kingsford. Several school records were broken in several events, including Mid Peninsula's Brett Branstrom's 143.325 in the discus. (Branstrom is pictured)

In the boys meet, Marquette outdistanced Gladstone in Division One (139-84).

St. Ignace easily took Division Two (124-91 over Ishpeming), and Cedarville edged Pickford (85-78) to win Division Three.

In the girl's meet, Marquette beat Sault Ste. Marie (90-82) to win Division One, St. Ignace won Division Two by 22 points over West Iron County, and in Division Three, Brimley was the runaway winner, 96-61 over Forest Park.

Escanaba Girls Get Second; Marquette Sweeps

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Marquette boys and girls track teams won Great Northern Conference championships during the conference meet Thursday in Escanaba. In the girls meet, Marquette easily outdistanced second place Escanaba, 179-111.5. In the boys meet, Marquette edged Gladstone by 14 points (146-132). Gladstone Boys Roll At Iron Mtn. Track Meet

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Gladstone High School boys track team rolled to an easy win in the Iron Mountain Triangular on Tuesday.

The Braves had 120.5 points, as James Bosk won four events and Jared Vuksan won three. Bosk won the 100, 400, high jump, and was part of 1600 relay. Vuksan won the long jump (19.4), discus (128), and shot put (46.11 ft). Iron Mountain was second (37 pts) and Escanaba third (17). Gladstone had 14 first-place finishes.

Esky Girls Edge Braves, Iron Mountain Track

The Escanaba Eskymos girls track team won a triangular in Iron Mountain on Tuesday. Escanaba won the race with 68 points, nine better than Iron Mountain's 59. Gladstone was third with 50. The Mountaineers won ten events, with Sarah Girard winning four of them. But Escanaba had more depth. Pictured at left: Escanaba's Robyn Murray anchors the winning 400-meter relay team. Eskymos Split Track Dual Meets In Kingsford

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Escanaba High School track teams were in Kingsford Tuesday for a dual meet with the Flivvers. The Eskymos won the girls meet, 88-47, while the Flivvers won the boys meet, 88-43. GLADSTONE TRACK TEAMS IN MUNISING---The Gladstone High School track teams competed in the Munising Invitational Tuesday afternoon. The Braves boys finished second behind Marquette, 142-102. Jared Vuksan won the shot put and discus for the Braves. Negaunee finished third. The Gladstone girls finished third with 80.8 points behind first-place Marquette (104) and Neagunee (94).

Looking Back At Delta Track Meet Thru Photos 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The annual Delta County Track Meet was held last Friday at the Marble Athletic Field in Gladstone. The meet features the two big schools...Gladstone and Escanaba...but also the little schools, Bark River-Harris, Mid Peninsula, Big Bay DeNoc and Rapid River. Gladstone was the winner of the boys event, with 265 points. Bark River-Harris was a very distant second with 82 points. Escanaba was third. In the girls event, Escanaba won with 189.5 points, while Gladstone had 172.5 points for second place.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Track Season Opens In Warm Superior Dome 

It was cold outside, but inside the Superior Dome, the track and field season got off to a good start.

The Marquette Redmen picked up where they left off last season, using their strength in distance events to easily win the boys Division One meet with 148 points. Kingsford was a distant second.

In the girls meet, Sault Ste. Marie edged Marquette by one point, 93-92, to win the title. The Escanaba Eskymos finished fifth with 39. Pictured: Esky junior Olivia Nash took third in the high jump.
