Marquette Stops Gladstone's Track Dominance

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

"The Streak" is over. The Gladstone Braves string of six straight boys U.P. Track and Field championships ended on Saturday, as the Marquette Redmen used its dominance in distance events to cruise to the U.P. Title at Kingsford High School.

The Redmen had 112 points, Kingsford 93, and the Braves were third. St. Ignace won the Division Two boys crown, and Forest Park won the D-3 boys championship.

In the girls meets, Negaunee won the D-1 title, St. Ignace was tops (by a wide margin) in D-2, and Big Bay deNoc (behind Erin Holmberg's big day) won D-3.

Marquette Wins Regional Track Championships

The Marquette Redmen dominated in distance events, winning both the boys and girls MHSAA Division One regional track meets Thursday in Escanaba.
In the boys meet, Marquette had 57 points, Menominee was second with 46. Gladstone was third with 41 points, and Escanaba was fourth with 37. In the girls meet, Marquette won with 68 points, followed by Sault Ste. Marie (53), Gladstone (20), and Menominee (18).

Rapid River Sweeps D-3 Track Regional Titles

The Rapid River Rockets took full advantage of their home track Thursday, winning both the boys and girls MHSAA Division Three regional championships.

In the boys meet, Rapid River was first with 70 points, with North Central second with 55. Third place went to Superior Central (43 points), followed by Mid Peninsula and Big Bay deNoc. The Rockets won all five field events, with Derek Berglund winning the discuss and pole vault. North Central's Alex Bertolini won both hurdles events.

In the girls meet, Rapid River was first with 55 points, followed closely by Big Bay deNoc with 53. North Central was third with 41 points. Rapid River's Rikki Prescott won both the 100 hurdles and pole vault. Big Bay deNoc's Erin Holmberg won three events: the 800, 1600, and 3200 runs.

The Marquette Redmen won the championship of both the boys and girls track meets Thursday in Escanaba.

The Redmen won the boys meet by ten points over Menominee, 71-60,5. Escanaba was third in the three-team meet with 30.5.

In the girls meet, Marquette was the easy winner with 76 points. Menominee edged Escanaba for second place, 43-38.

Eskymo Track Teams Fall To Kingsford In Dual

The Escanaba High School track teams hosted Kingsford in dual meets Tuesday at the Escanaba Athletic Field. In the boys meet, the Eskymos came close, but lost, 71-66.

Amongst the Eskymo winners: Andrew Stenberg in the 1600 and 3200 runs, Kelton Heller in the 800, Willie Meek in the long jump, and Max Vandewiele in the high jump. Escanaba also won the 1600 and 3200 relay races, as well as the shot-put.

In the girls meet, the Flivvers topped the Eskymos, 74-58. Esky's Joanie Stacey won the 1600 and 3200 runs, Olivia Nash won the 200 and the high jump, Trista Barron won the shot-put, and Elise Oswald won the 800. Congratulations to the Esky event winners!

Braves Track Team Comes Up 3.5 Points Short

The Gladstone Braves boys track team competed in a five-team invitational Tuesday in Marquette. The boys ran well, but ended up three points behind the host Redmen, 110-106.5. Justin Therrian won the 300 hurdles and was second in the 110.

Kent King won the discus and shot-put, and Charlie Pfotenhauer won the 100. In the pole vault, the Braves dominated, with Josh Syverson was first, with Ryan Jacques second and Andy Kotowski third. CLICK HERE  to see all of the race results.

Delta County Track Teams 'Meet' In Gladstone

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Delta County's six high schools sent their track teams to the Marble Athletic Field in Gladstone on Thursday for the annual county meet. Gladstone won both the boys and girls meets, with Escanaba finishing second in the boys meet and Big Bay deNoc taking second in the girls event.
