Iron Mountain Wrestlers Fall In D-4 Quarterfinal
It was the end of the line for the Iron Mountain High School wrestling team on Friday. The boys lost to the Hudson Tigers, 57-15, in the Division Four state quarterfinals in Battle Creek. Ethan Lindquist had a pin at 171 pounds for the Mountainers. Three of his teammates also won matches: Ryan Gauthier at 119, Cameron Jones at 125, and Chase Gendron at 135. Esky, Gladstone Wrestlers Advance To Palace

Two Escanaba Eskymos and two Gladstone Braves finished fourth in their respective weight classes Saturday at the MHSAA Indvidual Regional Tournaments. With the fourth place finishes, the four boys qualified for the MHSAA State Finals, to be held at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Escanaba freshman Travis Heller (125) and senior Garrett Johnson (152) both qualified at the D-2 Regionals in DeWitt. CLICK HERE to see the Division Two brackets. Gladstone freshman Dylan Under (103 pounds) and Braves senior Brad Deno (189 pounds) both qualified at the D-3 Regionals in Benzonia. Ishpeming's Derek Willey, Manistique's Matt Gonzalez, and Menominee brothers Nick and Steve Theuerkauf also advanced to the Palace. CLICK HERE to see the Division Three brackets. Iron Mt., St. Ignace Wrestlers Qualify For States
The Iron Mountain Mountaineers and St. Ignace Saints will be well-represented at the MHSAA State Finals next month at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
Six Mountaineers and five Saints advanced to the Palace with their performances Saturday in Rogers City. Iron Mountain's Chase Gendron won the 135 pound championship, beating teammate Dylan Carr, 5-0. Carr also qualified for states. Also going to the Palace: Adam Gerhard, Ethan Lindquist, Ryan Gauthier, and Cameron Jones.
St. Ignace had two regional champions: Joe Ostman at 189 pounds, and Galloway Thurston at 171. Four other Saints wrestlers will go to the Palace, as will Munising's J.J. Sadler and Cody Bronson. CLICK HERE to see the Division Four brackets. |
Eskymo Wrestlers Fall In Regional Semifinals

The Escanaba High School wrestling team was eliminated from the MHSAA Division Two wrestling tournament Wednesday, losing to a tough Greenville team, 60-19. Escanaba's Sherri Berube and Devon Slaga won by pin, while freshmen Travis Heller and Zach Priebe won by decision. The team may be done, but five Eskymos will wrestle in the Individual Regionals this Saturday.

Five Eskymos Qualify For Wrestling Regionals
The Escanaba High School wrestling team had a good day at the Division Two Individual District Tournament on Saturday in Gaylord.
Kyle Lajoie, Devin Slaga (pictured at left), Garrett Johnson, and Travis Heller all made it to the district finals, and all finished second. Sherri Berube finished in fourth place. All five will wrestle in the individual regionals next week down in DeWitt. The Eskymo team will face Greenville in the regionals on Wednesday in West Branch. Two Braves Win District Titles; Seven Qualify
At the Division Three individual wrestling districts in Negaunee on Saturday, seven Gladstone Braves finished in the top four of their weight classes and advance to next week's regionals. Two of the six won district championships: Dylan Unger at 103 pounds and Brad Deno at 189. They go into the regionals amongst the top seeds.
Brandon Gagnon took second at 152, Chris Walters was third at 160, and three other wrestlers ended up fourth: (Josh Kadish at 140, Jake Wydra at 145, Jared Syverson at 112). Esky Wrestlers Win Great Northern Conference

The Escanaba High School wrestling team completed a clean sweep of the season's major tournaments on Saturday, beating Marquette by three points to win the Great Northern Conference Championship.
The 214.5-211 victory added to the Eskymo trophy case, which already includes the U.P. regular season (Mariucci Trophy) and U.P. Finals (Duvall Trophy) championships.
