Bruce, Beattie, Harvala Honored

The Escanaba High School hockey team had its season-ending banquet Monday night at the House of Ludington restaurant.

Three Eskymo seniors received team awards during the banquet.

Mark Bruce was named the team's Most Valuable Player. Bruce led the team in scoring with 11 goals and 22 points, and was second on the team with a +7 rating. Doug Beattie got the team's Academic Award because his grade point average is the highest on the team.

And Alex Harvala was given the "little I" award for sportsmanship, and for putting the needs of the team ahead of his own individual needs.

The banquet also included a presentation by team parent Marv Szukalowski: a series of humorous awards given to the eight Eskymo seniors. Blue Line Club President Matt Hanson also thanked the sponsors and others who helped this self-funded team throughout the season.

Escanaba finished the 2008-09 season with a 10-13-2 record, and the team improved in many statistical categories this season.
