Big Second Half Leads Broncos Past NCA Jets

The Bark River-Harris Broncos struggled to make lay-ups and free throws Monday night, and as a result, the Upper Peninsula's top-ranked team led just 28-21 over the North Central Jets at halftime.

But BR-H had a big second half at both ends of the court and rolled to a 67-31 win, outscoring the Jets, 39-10, over the final 16 minutes.

Sarah Madalinski scored 29 points to move to within eleven points of 1,000 for her career. Jaime Madalinski and Megan Derusha both added ten points. Pictured at left: Rachel Madalinski (10) breaks away as three Jets players pursue.

NCA Jets Top Broncos In Sloppy Rivalry Game

The North Central Jets and Bark River-Harris Broncos had trouble getting into an offensive flow Friday as the teams met in a Skyline/CUP game in Harris.

There were numerous turnovers, and the boys who normally lead their respective teams in scoring, Bryce Bilski and Taren Halfaday, couldn't get on track offensively.

In a game where neither team led by more than seven points, the Jets topped the Broncos, 47-44. The bleachers were jam-packed with fans, prompting the school to open the balcony bleachers for students to use. NCA improved to 9-1. BR-H is now 9-3.

The Bark River-Harris Broncos lost the first set of a tightly-contested volleyball match Wednesday, but gradually took control to eliminate the Carney-Nadeau Wolves, 3-1.

The scores were 24-26, 25-22, 25-12, and 25-21. The Broncos actually thought that they had won the first set too, but Bark Megan Derusha was called for touching the pole on what would have been the winner. Carney then won the set two points later.

Nevertheless, BR-H advances to play North Dickinson in Thursday's district title match in Felch. North Dickinson swept Mid Peninsula, 3-0, in Wednesday's other semifinal.
