ESCANABA---The Escanaba High School hockey team set many records in the 2009-'10 season, and Monday night, the celebrated their success during the post-season banquet at the House of Ludington.

Senior Mike Williams was chosen the team's Most Valuable Player, and he was given the new "Hobey Baker" character award.

Fellow senior Troy Rodman (who played the second half of the season with a broken wrist) was given the team's coveted "Little 'I'" award for dedication and "team play".

Sophomores Cody Cousineau and Danny Williams got the team's Academic Award. Cousineau had a 4.0 Grade Point Average at Escanaba High School, and Williams had a 3.8 GPA at Gladstone High School.

Freshman Nick Vandermissen got the team's "Player of Tomorrow" award, which is the first time the award has been offered.

Eskymo Coach Charlie Elliott praised his team's success, and called it the first step toward building a program that will be respected statewide.

"The excitement around Eskymo hockey is real," Elliott said. "Our gate (attendance) was up. We are certainly going in the right direction. These young men, overall, handled themselves very well both on and off the ice. They had all of the qualities that we expect of an Eskymo hockey player."

Elliott has begun working on next year's schedule, and he says that "our strength of schedule has already improved by four games". Page down to see more photos from Monday night's banquet. See you next season!
